The War of 1812 CyberInquiry Developed by: Eric Weldie Teacher Overview · Students will research a number of websites that will be provided on the War of 1812. Students will be assigned into heterogeneous groups of two and create a Power Point presentation to explain in detail a key battle that the pair has chosen. The student’s Power Point will be presented in the class a week after assignment is handed out. Students will also be able to use other materials such as the library and books. · 10th grade United States History · 8.3.9 A- Identify and analyze political and cultural contributions of individuals and groups to United States history from 1787 to 1914 8.3.9 B- Identify and analyze primary documents, material artifacts, and historic sites important to United States history from 1787 to 1914. 8.3.9 D- Identify and analyze conflict and cooperation among social groups and organizations in United States history from 1787 to 1914. Introduction · The War of 1812 is one of the forgotten wars that the United States declared. The war lasted for over two years, and finally ended in a stalemate. It did however, once and for all confirm American Independence. The offensive the United States attempted, failed to capture Canada. On the other hand, the British army was successfully stopped and defeated when it attempted to capture the cities of Baltimore and New Orleans. There were a number of American naval victories in which American vessels proved themselves to be superior to the similarly sized British vessels. · Each group will have to choose one battle from the list I provide to research the websites provided and other materials. · Each group will have one writer and one researcher. · 2 class periods in the library will be provided so all students will be able to use computers and other materials. · Using information found in the research, groups will create a Power Point Presentation.
